Thank you for taking time out to read my introduction, my name is Karl I am a qualified counsellor, hypnotherapist and gastric band practitioner. Before I became a therapist I had an emotional attachment to food. To be honest my unhealthy relationship with food has been with me for most of my life, my earliest recollection is my mother saying to me you don’t get down from the table until you’ve cleared your plate. I come from a large family and money was tight.
My journey not so dissimilar to other people. I think I’ve been on just about every diet there is and have had some moderate success over the years losing weight but always putting it back on and the harder I tried to lose weight the harder it became.
Things came to a head when 5 years ago my partner of 24 years passed away after many years of ill health to be honest I lost it a bit and my weight went through the roof. I had gout and some months later was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Things were taken a turn for the worse in desperation I borrowed 10k to have gastric bypass surgery the operation was a success and I started losing weight but over time the weight returned and I over stretched my stomach.
That was 3 years ago, I told a friend of the difficulty I was having but thought she wouldn’t understand as she looked amazing she laughed and said “well you don’t know me as well as I thought you did” she told me she had a hypnotic gastric band fitted a few years earlier after reading an article in a magazine, she didn’t want to continue the way she was going but was afraid of surgery. She said hypnosis really worked for her and suggested if I was really serious about tackling my weight gain I should seriously consider it, she said it wasn’t going to be easy and it wasn’t a free get out of jail card. I think the timing was spot on as I didn’t like who I was becoming and my relationship with food was coming back to haunt me.
Working with my therapist I underwent hypnotic gastric band surgery in 2016 and was amazed by the affect it had on me. I took on board the lifestyle choices and exercise plan. The changes have been unbelievable my weight has stayed the same for the last 3 years, I’ve lost over 4 stone, the relationship I have with food has significantly changed. I am no longer shackled to my former eating habits. I don’t suffer from gout anymore and my doctor has said I don’t need treatment for diabetes. Seeing the turnaround it has made to my life is truly amazing.
